Shall We Dance, 34th Street

Dancers, Below Ground
Photo by myself below ground, at the 34th Street subway station.

A couple of dancers performed, drawing a good-sized crowd.

The ability to work the crowd is the mark of a great entertainer. These guys talked trash before jumping about and spinning.

  1. Very cool. It's tough to hold the attention of a crowd, especially in the subway.

  2. Reminds me of the trash talking, spinning, flipping dancers that I saw in Philly the other week. There was a drunk guy with a bottle of vodka taunting them. lol

    If I had the chance

  3. One of the scenes I love best about NYC. I have often tried to capture these moments in the subway but my picture has always turned out too dark.
    Great picture!

  4. I love how these artists give a brief respite to the often harried commuters.

  5. Hi Paz
Yeah it's neat that there only 2 guys but they captivated a bunch of people in this busy station.

    Hi James
What a trip? I hope you got photos!

    Hi Debra
Yes, you have to adjust your camera in these cases. I probably had the ISO at 400. That increases the sensitivity of the camera.

    Hi Lily
    I agree! They're great!

  6. love the street performers in NYC - there are NONE in my neck of California and the ones in Santa Monica and Venice beaches in LA seem so "hollywood" to me - not organic and street like the NYC performers! love the shot too!
