The young red-haired woman is indeed the focus in both, but in the 2nd photo, her body positioning is more interesting - much less static than the foursquare stance in photo 1.

Both are very good, thanks to your composition and the lighting, but I say that No. 2 has the edge.

Best regards,
SteveRSteve Rosenbachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16402392123559559966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-37782823449710406472011-06-13T02:01:30.672-04:002011-06-13T02:01:30.672-04:00I totally agree with you on the first shot. But they're both very fine--again culture portraits.

Groups like this sometimes make me think of Chaucer's pilgrims, which in turn makes me think of Charles Baxter's superb story from the 1980s, "A Late Sunday Afternoon by the Huron" in his book Through the Safety Net. Like you, he's a student of the crowd in that story.Banjo52https://www.blogger.com/profile/04342397136888422440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-91129371407172062002011-05-26T16:40:01.267-04:002011-05-26T16:40:01.267-04:00I like the subway platform shots especially since ...I like the subway platform shots especially since we don't have a subway. I think I actually like the redhead's stance in the second shot a little better--it's a little more Reginald Marsh dynamic. But I like the slightly warmer coloring of the first shot. (Also loved the Batman reference!)
