Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's a hospital, and as such, it has to comply with special rules and requirements... I don't know, but still. And the color makes it even worse in my opinion.

In the end, I think we can agree that this is another serious case of MetLife Building Syndrome. :)Tonynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-11110056768137876792011-01-29T10:17:11.017-05:002011-01-29T10:17:11.017-05:00Ha, Tony, I like the ugly pet reference.

It really sticks out, doesn't it? I'm surprised people agreed to build it? Often with modern architecture, buildings were rendered without color, just as lines.

It's a real shame and a lesson that once you build something, you're stuck with it.

http://www.morningside-heights.net/viewcity.htmKittyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13260829805068114560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-6482213415776537042011-01-29T09:34:59.128-05:002011-01-29T09:34:59.128-05:00Well, basically, I have to agree with you with the...Well, basically, I have to agree with you with the only difference that I don't even see its beauty when I try to look at it "out-of-context". Of course the view is amazing, and I love the building the way one loves his ugly pet, but somehow, it's just... I don't know... blatant. Although it doesn't look that bad from here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/newyorkobserver/2987310453/
Guess we can't all work in the Chrysler Building, can we? :)

Sorry, I have no idea when Annenberg was built. Tried to google it but failed. I'm sure its older than me, but that can mean 60s and 70s as well. :)Tonynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-31753975841925474602011-01-28T21:28:26.706-05:002011-01-28T21:28:26.706-05:00Hi Tony,

Was it built in the 60s or 70s?

I used to really love modern architecture. Not that I don't love/like it now, but I now feel that context is more important than aesthetics, especially in a city setting. That building, though it's nice and 'clean' in its own way, seems out of place amongst the limestone of the Upper East Side.

The building makes sense - there is a bottom, middle and top, there are louvers where the mechanical equipment is...but it is such a big, hulking thing. It doesn't make friends with its neighbors.

The view must be pretty nice, though! What are your thoughts about it?

Thank you, Paul!!Kittyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13260829805068114560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-66579866133693930142011-01-28T05:09:48.978-05:002011-01-28T05:09:48.978-05:00A great view, well worth re-visiting.
