If they were using the image for editorial purposes--an article in Newsweek, for example--it would be fine. But photo agencies always say of their images of famous people that if you're using them for marketing purposes, you must also obtain written permission from the person [or his or her estate--Elvis, for instance]. That said, it's refreshing to see the company isn't concerned about Obama's current approval ratings. If it had been W in the jacket, I don't think we'd be seeing this billboard.Terry at Blue Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13504693954312787975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-48850647426362241322010-01-11T13:19:45.846-05:002010-01-11T13:19:45.846-05:00You are so funny & right about DC having to de...You are so funny & right about DC having to deal with more important things!
I do love this shot though.dianasfaria.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10488357854017358868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-7535729199233556822010-01-11T11:38:51.917-05:002010-01-11T11:38:51.917-05:00Yes, I saw it too! :)

I wonder when it will be taken down?

The ad has generated a bit of controversy, which is exactly what the company wanted.

Hi Christina
I agree with you. It was kind of cool to see such a huge billboard, I have to say.

Thanks Nori!

Ha Fredrik. I think we just have too many scandals over here.

Hi Washington
I think if the image had a licensing fee, it means it was up for grabs. I think it's a courtesy to ask the White House and they really should have done so.

If an image is used on a tv show, it's not directly selling a particular product.

Ha Susu, yes.Kittyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13260829805068114560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-41691950361501871882010-01-11T09:47:53.847-05:002010-01-11T09:47:53.847-05:00A funny gaffe! But that is something to think about. For exemple, many humoristic programs (not only in the US) use the image the president to make fun, and in this case, the image of the president is being used for commercial purpose, isn't it?Washingtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09380647542195306244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-70038947077568818042010-01-11T08:16:52.330-05:002010-01-11T08:16:52.330-05:00If that happened over here, it would be a huge sca...If that happened over here, it would be a huge scandal.Fredrikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11116211754147379438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-67832537411522595162010-01-11T06:30:40.722-05:002010-01-11T06:30:40.722-05:00interesting!interesting!Nori Katayamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09374486783828700916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-222523593258151872.post-81114835977403167982010-01-11T05:35:02.346-05:002010-01-11T05:35:02.346-05:00I sort of love it!!
