Congregating Outside, in Park Slope, Brooklyn

Procession, Park Slope Photo by myself at Fourth Avenue and Ninth Street, in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

A procession with hundreds of followers wound their way through Park Slope on Friday. Many people were in attendance, bearing crosses.

The procession ended just outside St. Thomas of Aquinas Roman Catholic Church. Yesterday was Good Friday. Most businesses were closed in observance.

The United Palace Theater, in Washington Heights

The Palace Cathedral, NYC
Photo by myself at 175th Street and Broadway.

The above photo was taken while speeding by in the car.

Unfortunately Mark drives much too fast for my tastes. He detests New York traffic, which can be stop-and-go and dominated by dummies. (Mark calls them more colorful names).

I had no idea this theater existed until we whizzed by, and I only had time for a couple snaps. The United Palace Theater originally opened in 1930, and was purchased by the United Church Science of Living Institute in 1969.

The building continues to show concerts by current artists like Beck, Sigur Ros and Modest Mouse.

Hopes and Prayers, at St. John the Divine

Cathedral of St. John, Interior
Photo by myself at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, around 110th Street and Amsterdam.

Here's another photo from my tour of the Upper West Side. St. John the Divine is a gigantic cathedral which occupies an entire city block. Many votive candles were lit, some decorated with the cathedral logo.

The building is considered to be unfinished - it survived a fire in 2001 and is still being slowly renovated while remaining in use.

If you ever visit this place, let me know if you have the same experience as I did. When I walked up to the front door, all I could hear was the very loud chirping of birds. The birds sounded like they were buried inside the walls of the church. Very strange!

If you'd like to know more about this cathedral, here is a great site with some great photos.

Trinity Church, at Dusk

Trinity Church, NYC
Photo by myself of Trinity Church, downtown at Broadway and Wall Street.

Here's another photo from my jaunt downtown the other day. Just around the corner from the Stock Exchange, the church has occupied this piece of land since the late 17th century. It's since been rebuilt several times.

The grounds are fenced off and there are gravestones surrounding the church. Alexander Hamilton is buried there.

St. Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue

Church Entrance, NYC
Photo by myself of St. Thomas Church, at Fifth Avenue at 53rd Street.

This is just one of many churches and cathedrals in this busy neighborhood. I just happened to be walking by.

I am at a loss for words again, tonight. The week has just sped by.

TGIF, everyone!

Grace Church, in Color

Grace Church, NYC
Photo by myself outside Grace Church, on Broadway and 11th Street.

You wouldn't think this is a photo from Manhattan, but it is. This little neo-Gothic church just below Union Square is gated off from the busy street.

As for most New Yorkers, work is instantly nuts for me - a client meeting is scheduled for Wednesday. My first day back was a twelve-hour day. Tomorrow promises to be the same.

Unfortunately, I took a cab home with a madman driving. It was one of those cabs where the back seat was set low, so only the tippy top of one's head peeks out the window. My eyes could not find a horizon to focus on. By the time we reached the Brooklyn Bridge, my head was swimming.

I got home to Mark and Rupert (our dog) and Dida (our cat) conked out on the sofa, one on top of the other in a heap.

It was a welcome end to the evening. There is nothing like coming home your dear ones blissfully asleep, unaware of dodgy cab rides, deadlines and the trivial world outside.

Grace Church, in Black and White

Grace Church, Broadway
Photo by myself of Grace Church, on Broadway and East 10th Street.

This very pretty neo-Gothic church is a little gem in this area of the Village. It's a national landmark, and its gorgeous details and pristine green lawn are fenced off from the busy street.

A homeless man and his belongings are standing out in front.

Having this long weekend off from work has been a mini-vacation. In fact, Friday seemed like the longest day ever, filled with little errands in the neighborhood.

Speaking of vacations, Mark and I readying ourselves for a week-long trip to Mexico, beginning next Saturday, planned eons ago. It's a shaky time to leave the country but then, there is never a good time to take off.

We'll have computer access while we're away, and I am bringing my camera, of course. So I'll either be posting from my stash of NY photos or photos of the little Mexican town where we'll be staying.

Strange to say, but I feel nostalgic for New York already!
