Fuerzabruta, Now Thrilling Union Square

Fuerzabruta
Photo by myself at a Fuerzabruta show in Union Square.

This performance group has had an extended run in Union Square. I'd say it's an edgier relative of Cirque du Soleil.

The show is original, romantic, interactive and unexpected. The crowd moves around as music blares, papers fly and performers do the wildest things.

I'm usually a hard sell in terms of venues, but I was pretty wowed when we saw a Fuerzabruta show last week.

I don't want to give much away, except that there's loud percussive music, and wind machines, and actors swimming in mid-air.

Mark is tough to please, but all throughout the show, he was saying, 'Wow, that's cool' and 'Wow...!'

Tickets are $75 and performances run all week, except Mondays. I'm sure this group will be in town for a while, but I would go sooner rather than later. You can see many more snippets of the show on the Fuerzabruta website.

Wow that is so cool!!!

I saw it in February and it really is something. The ladies you were shooting above you really wigged me out. Visually I think it was my favorite part but when the claustrophobia came it came with a purpose.

No wait! I think my favorite part was the man and the woman on opposite sides of the turning black disc!

Gosh, that does look amazing. I have never been to anything like that. Like your Mark I am difficult to impress as I am not a visual person at all and things tend to pass me by - but I think I would struggle to let that kind of spectacle pass me by!!

I hope you've had a lovely summer? I have. I'll be back to blogging soon and will keep up with your posts on a regular basis again then. I've missed your photos.

Anyone else would just bite his tongue at a mooment like this.

At the risk of sounding like the world's worst curmudgeon (I am, but most of the time I try not to to sound like it) I have to say I hate these shows.

Cirque pitches it's big blue and yellow tent in Vancouver routinely. At the urging of friends I went a few years ago. By the time it was over I'd become their worst fan. The music alone made me almost mental (yes, I still haven't fully recovered).

I realize that makes me an oddball. If most people felt like me there wouldn't be a Cirque de Soleil and similar shows.

I had to get that off my chest. I feel better now.

Kitty, I know you'll understand that this is not a criticism of your photography or your blog.

Thanks everyone!
I'm surprised the photos came out as well as they did, given the venue (it was very dark!).

Kizz, I loved that part of the show, too. My photos didn't come out well. It was tremendous and frightening, which made it even more tremendous.

RB, I'm glad you're doing well. The summer has been grand so far, mostly busy with work. It'll be great to you have you back online, but take your time!

Wayne, no offense taken. This kind of thing is not for everyone. I'm a romantic at heart, so this show and Cirque du Soleil appeal to me.

Awesome, awesome photo!

When I had out-of-town guests last month, we considered going to Fuerzabruta. But my friends wanted to see Naked Boys Singing. :-)

I hope all the fans get to see them someday. Regretfully, it's not a travelling sort of show, if you know what I mean. Very tied to their gizmos.

Ming, I saw a photo of Naked Boys, I think my mind blanked it out tho, lol

My sister went last week and really enjoyed the show! Watch out if you stand under the middle! She was drenched when they opened it up on her group! But they laughed all the way to the store as they bought dry sweatshirts to warm up! lololol

Lots of fun!
