More Notes from the Left Coast

Santa Monica pier
Photo by myself on the Santa Monica pier.

I've been posting photos from California for the last few days. Mark and I are here for my brother's wedding, near Santa Monica.

We'll be back Sunday night. Photos of New York will resume Monday morning.

My photos from our drive around Hollywood hills didn't come out as well as I'd hoped. Since we live in New York, it's rare to take panoramic shots. I'm sure there's some trick that I'm just missing.

From Hollywood Hills

Hollywood Hills

Tonight's wedding ceremony was a little surreal. I'm having trouble thinking of my younger brother as a married man. His new wife is gorgeous and down to earth, and I'm excited to have her as a part of the family.

They had a huge number of guests and it went off without a hitch. Mark and I left with my parents around midnight, just as the dancing started. I'm sure everyone else stayed til the sun came up.

Anyhow, Mark and I are due to fly back tomorrow afternoon. We'll be sad to leave my parents, but promise to return soon. We have invitations from several of my parents' friends, for dinner next time we're in town.

I don't go to beaches anymore. The last time I drove to one it took two days and nights to get there and then another day to find the beach with live people on it and then two days to look around trying to find those naked ladies you see in advertisements about beaches and sun tan lotion. And all we found were burned pieces of leather with polka dot patches here and there. Not a pretty sight to be seen. Them and old people.

I can see old people when I look in the mirror so I never go to the beaches anymore.

I love that viewer things - they always look like aliens from Outer Space don't they - staring out at the beach.

It feels weird you being in California. You live so far away from me that it shouldn't matter where you are but somehow I kind of wish you would come home - you should be in NY!

Glad to hear the wedding was a success and went off without a hitch, Kitty! And the dancing started at midnight?! Wow, that's late.

Your photos of the hills remind me of the first time I drove around the California coast, and was surprised to see all the very different types of plantlife growing by the side of the road. Having lived my whole live on the East Coast it was such a totally foreign - but beautiful - lanscape out there!

Hi Eva
yes, lol, I often joke that if you're in California, your brain turns to mush. It's very nice living out here. I imagine Eden to be like this.

weddings bring out the sop in me, I can become very emotional. Fortunately I didn't lose it last night!

Hullo Mr Lincoln
You are hilarious. Oh dear.

Hi dear RB
We're looking forward to being home in NYC, too. It's been a little of a weird time. More on all that later.

Hi Spandrel
The west coast is so very different from the NE, isn't it? I am still freaked out by the palm trees. It's all a little over the top - the birds of paradise, the meaty succulents. It don't look real!

beautiful photos kitty, thanks for sharing. I did a mini-road trip in CA two years ago but stopped just shy of LA. It's such a beautiful state, I really can't wait to go back for another visit.

Glad to see you had fun in my neck of the woods. It has been some pretty amazing weather for you while you have been visiting. It's always nice to get home though.
