Dog Days of Summer

Dog Run
Photo by myself outside the dog run in Madison Square Park.

Owners and dogs convene inside these fenced areas to run around, blow off steam, sniff each other and chit chat.

Dog runs are usually covered in gravel. There are often smaller pens nearby for the smaller dogs. In the heat, kicked up doggy dust gives off a distinctive musty, doggy smell.

The days here continue to be super hot and humid. I doubt it will end anytime soon.

Keeping a dog in the city is a status symbol, of sorts. You have to have an apartment bigger than a postage stamp, a flexible schedule and often, a dog walker.

Some New Yorkers train their smaller dogs to use wee wee pads indoors. This way, the dogs essentially walk themselves.

No idea why, but as soon as I saw your title I thought of Marilyn Monroe ... mmm ...

This does not sound particularly hygienic!

Interesting photography. Nice relaxed looking scene.

Patty and I will be celebrating 53 years of marriage on July 12th. Think of it as a long-term relationship.

I have invited bloggers to offer suggestions on a gift for me to give Patty and the list would not be complete without your ideas.

Hi Julie
Wearing a white dress would be a nice antidote to the humidity.

The wee wee pad thing is something else. I suppose it's easier than putting a diaper on the dog!

Happy anniversary Mr Lincoln!
I will put my thinking cap on..

Welcome Alaya
I love candids, too. Posed photos don't do it for me

People say that a lot about dogs being a status symbol. I really don't see it. Maybe with smaller dogs, dogs that are essentially jewelry for your life but not the sorts of dogs I hang around with.

i like how you have captured different worlds there, the two women, the one on the phone, the guy with his back turned, and of course, the poodle! Relaxed for sure

I wouldn't like it TOO hot but alas here we get a few nice days and then days of cold winds and heavy rains with maybe a couple of hours of hot sun in between.

That sure looks a great meeting-place.

I laughed when I read that the owners and their sit around chat and sniff each other. I pictured the owners sniffing. LOL!

Hi Kizz
Your dogs sound down to earth.
I think dogs can be associated with status symbols because most NYers don't have cars.

Hi Ken Mac
There was a lot going on in the doggy pen. It was nice to see people there chilling out on a hot day.

Hi Gerald
Hyde sounds all over the place in terms of weather. Whew. That must be tough as a pedestrian.

Hi Tammy
The dog runs seem as much a dog place as a people place. It's nice to find areas where very different people can sit around and get along.

Hi Mo
Thanks dear!
