The Majestic Ansonia

The Ansonia
Photo by myself, of the Ansonia, an established apartment building on the Upper West Side, at 72nd Street and Broadway. This building has a glorious history of guests, including Arturo Toscanini, Igor Stravinsky and Babe Ruth.

There's something about dusk and the streetlights in this photo that reminds me of the holidays.

Mark and I got home late Saturday, from a full afternoon in 'the country' for an office picnic.

It took nearly 3 hours to drive each way to Columbia County, an area of rolling hills and farmland. It was great to get out from the hustle and bustle to fresh air and a thousand shades of green.

It's hard to believe it's mid-August already. Soon I'll be posting photos of the first snow and holiday shopping.

For now, though, we'll just enjoy the last breath of summer: barbeques, hot dogs, kids running around, too much wine and good conversation.

Late shopping in New York?

Great work on your blog today and a very appropriate picture.

I've just racked up two years at South Shields Daily Photo and I hope to be passing here in two years time to compliment you again! Keep up the good work!
Thanks to everyone who has passed by and left a comment or some encouragement, it makes it all worthwhile.

Awesome, thanks for that. I walk by that building once a week on my way to dance class and I didn't know what it was!

Lovely photo - perfectly captures that early-evening feeling!

Taking a drive can be a nice way to enjoy this perfect weather - hope you had fun on your outing!

Thanks for catching the green, not the red, lights. :) Nice shot of a majestic NYC landmark. Movies are different as Rosemary's Baby and Single White Female were filmed here, well, guess they are not that different actually!

A very handsome building. I recognize the name but never knew what the building looked like.

I love that picture! I don't think I've seen any nighttime pictures on here before. It looks very busy, but in a good way, like people have fun places to go to.

thanks Blackcat!

Hi Louis
Thanks, the dusky light helps set the mood.

Congratulations, Curly!
Your photos are consistently wonderful.

Here's to another several years.

Hi Kizz
how neat? There are several dance and yoga studios on the UWS. I never ventured to one.

Hi Spandrel
getting out of the city this weekend was just the thing we needed. There were so many different shades of green, each soothing the eye.

Hi Ken
good point about the lights, I didn't notice that.

I think Rosemary's Baby was supposed to have taken place in the nearby Dakota, no? John Lennon's old building. I dunno about SWF.

Thanks Fredrik!

Hi Wayne
Gone are the days when people referred to buildings by name. Now it's more about the address, and the $ associated with it.

Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Central Park West...it's all about the implied bucks.

Hi Eva
it's reassuring you thought about xmas, too. I thought I was just going a little nuts ;-)

Thanks Tammy
I've got a few photos from this hour, but you're right, most are during daylight. I really love this intersection. It feels very European.
