CDP Theme Day - Metal

Metal Globe at Columbus Circle
Photo by myself of the large metal globe sculpture at Columbus Circle, at 59th Street and Columbus Avenue.

This sparkling sculpture is at least 30 feet wide and is held above the ground by one big, chrome column. All around, people are rushing by to board the subway, tour the fancy shops at the Time Warner Center and saunter in Central Park.

The above photo was inspired by this month's Theme Day, held by the City Daily Photo site. Blogs all over the world are also showing photos featuring the theme metal, today.

There is a lot going on right now.

Coworkers and friends are changing jobs, even in this uncertain market. Construction in the city is going at a mad hum.

In the building where my main project is situated, a brand new condo building, there are 90 renovations going on. That's nine-zero projects that are starting up, in full gear, or wrapping up.

You wouldn't think there's a real estate crisis going on.

Cool portarit - I like kinda half-abstracty ones like this, they're pretty cool. So many people take what you might say as "normal| photos but not you - that's why I keep going back!
Ciao

You and Ming have both published spheres today. NY must love them. Both impressive I must say. A nice choice for today.

As soon as I saw this great shot I thought of MIB and the World's Fair. That was in Queens so I assume this isn't the same sculpture, although they look alike.
I've started a daily photo for the town I live in, Pensacola, and I just registered with CDP yesterday. Now I have something to think about and most of the day to come up with something. Thanks, Kitty.

Great capture of this sculpture. I have seen it many times, but not quite that way-nice imagination!

OMG Kitty!! How awesome it is that we had the same idea. :-) I'm honored because you're the architect and the creative one. So I guess I'm slowly catching up to you. :-)

I didn't know there was a metal globe at Columbus Circle. I've been there a dozen of times or so (not my usual haunt) but I don't remember see one. Where is it located exactly?

Very cool picture! Despite talk of a downturn in the real estate markets, I'm still seeing a lot of construction going on in these parts, too. Perhaps some cities are more immune to the crisis than others.

Happy Theme Day! And have a great weekend!

Janet

What a great subject for the theme!

It's such a surreal time, economy-wise. Makes you wonder what's going to happen next? If you've got a decent job and a manageable mortgage, it can feel like an odd little pocket of security, these days. Glad to hear business is still booming for you!

this metal looks very heavy.

I love this sphere and the story behind it. I do like the angle you choose. Not easy to capture it with all the works going on around it.
