Photo by myself on the boardwalk at Coney Island, Brooklyn.
Though the beach season hasn't yet started, some vendors were already serving customers this weekend. Hot dogs tend to be the crowd favorite.
On Sunday, Mark and I took our dog Rupert for his first walk on the beach. The walk was short-lived; unfortunately, the beach was littered with broken glass.
Coney Island is located at the tip of Brooklyn, about 20 minutes away by car. You can also take the subway. Lots of other people had had the same idea, since the weather was mild.
Coney Island is known for its boardwalk, an amusement park with a wooden roller coaster and an overall feeling of decay. Perhaps at one time the rides and storefronts were new, but the area always seems a bit run down. The neighborhood around the park is a bit depressing.

encore une belle photo en b&w. J'adore coney island, chaque fois que je vais à NYC, je passe une journée a coney island et je remonte jusqu'à little odessa pour manger un bon borsh ukrainien.
Another nice photograph in b*w. I love coney island, each time I go to NYC, I cross day a coney island and I take back up Little Odessa until to eat a good Ukrainian borsh.
Oh but where is Rupert? I did hunt for him amongst the tables but I don't think he is there.
What did he make of the beach and the waves. I remember my children as toddlers being very afraid of the waves.
Hi Olivier!
I'm not surprised you visit every year! What a smart choice? Not a long train ride out of the city, it's a very good day trip.
Hi RB
well I don't think Rupert thought much of the place? I couldn't tell but there was no 'wow, this is different' reaction. He just trotted along with us, happy as can be.
Next time we'll have to walk near the waves. The beach was kind of yucky.
The life of the people in New York is well protrayed...
Great art here.
Depressing or not, it's always great to make that first spring time jaunt to the beach. Sorry to hear about the broken glass. Sadly, it is so typical of NYC's beaches, and the primary reason why we stick to Long Island or the Jersey Shore. Great pic! I love B/W.
monochrome gives this an archival feel...lovely
Coney Island was the only disappointment on my trip to NYC, I was expecting much more.
Rupert would love the beaches over here. Fine white sand, mile after mile. And no broken glass.
Thanks for stopping by. Take care!
I like this pic Kitty, but I need a Rupert fix, hint-hint.
