Beer, Wonderful Beer

Beer at Fairway
Photo by myself at Fairway, the supermarket in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

A host of lesser known beers line the shelves of this supermarket. Here you can find J.K. Scrumpy Hard Cider, Samuel Smith's Organically Produced Lager and Arrogant Bastard Ale.

You can find a huge range of items at Fairway, my favorite supermarket, from non-dairy salmon-flavored cream cheese (made from soy), to dried French pears.

They have a kazillion cheeses and even cheese classes for cheese novices. There are buckets of olives surrounding more buckets of olives. There are fruit pastilles and canned baked beans in a section devoted to British foods. It is a food lover's paradise.

The prices are reasonable and there is no hint of pretentiousness. The only downside to Fairway is the crowds.

New Yorkers are not known for their driving skills, shopping carts included. If only they gave licenses and issued tickets for those things!

Click here for Fairway's online store, where you can purchase a number of items.

"Ça sent la bière de Londres à Berlin

Ça sent la bière de Londres à Berlin
Ça sent la bière donne-moi la main

C'est plein d'horizons
A vous rendre fou
Mais l'alcool est blond
Le diable est à nous
Les gens sans Espagne
Ont besoin des deux
On fait des montagnes
Avec ce qu'on peut

Ça sent la bière de Londres à Berlin

Hi Olivier
Oh I love Jacques Brel!
And I do enjoy a good glass of wine, too. :-)

Hi Nori
Many delis and supermarkets carry Kirin and Sapporo. The Japanese beers are wonderfully dry. Great choice!

Hallo B Squared!

I love Fairway. The last time I was taking pictures at the one in Long Island they made me stop, but at least they didn't make me delete them!

Arrogant Bastard Ale... I wonder if it's good!? The name sure does make one curious;)

Also the Ruination Ale next to the Arrogant Bastard is also very good! They are all made by Stone Brewing.

Hi Lily
So far I've avoided the Fairway photo police! They sound strict in your parts.

Hi Susu
I'll have to try it next time. I love the design, too!

Doll, you are widely versed in ales and beers. I heard on NPR that more people are turning to smaller labels and home brews, with the economy, but that alcohol never goes out of style.

Jacques Brel would point out that there are only two Belgian beers in the assortment pictured. ;)
I love Fairway too. I was at the Red Hook one this w.e. - much roomier than our UWS one! They do need serious help for their "café" service: totally disorganized and unbelievably slow. I should write them a letter!

nice picture; sounds like a great store; do they sell Newcastle Brown Ale?
