Photo by myself at The Palm restaurant, on West Street in Tribeca.
The walls of this high end steak house and bar are covered with the likenesses of present-day celebrities.
Hundreds of floating heads provide a backdrop while you eat. As celebs visit the restaurant, they autograph their likenesses.
It's Restaurant Week, once again!
Mark and I dined with old friends at The Palm, a well-known steak house. There are several Palm restaurants, and we opted to visit their Tribeca location.
Restaurants during this time offer special deals to their customers. At The Palm, for a mere $35, you can select from several prix fixe dinners, which include an appetizer, entree and desert.
Both Mark and I had lobster bisque and filet mignon with roasted fingerling potatoes. One of our friends had pineapple gazpacho (!) and grilled mahi mahi. We all had key lime pie for dessert, and as extras, generous side dishes of Monday Night salad (chopped fresh tomatoes, onions, red bell peppers and a tiny bit of anchovies) and creamed spinach.
You still have a few days to enjoy this great deal. Restaurant Week continues through to July 31st. Hundreds of restaurants participate in this twice-yearly event, offering their own special menus.

Your meals sounded delicious. I've never taken advantage of Restaurant Week. One of these days, I'm going to have to do so.

i love diddy!
Coolies! My friends and I use to go for the lunches when we're of for summer break at school. Great deal and great food at restaurants that we otherwise not be able to afford to go to.
je ne connais que Woody Allen, je vais chercher sur internet pour faire des recherches
I bet the food is great, but I wouldn't want to have those funky heads looking over my shoulder. :-0
thanks for the tip Kitty.
this photograph is eerily familiar to me because it reminds me of a dream I had when I was little, same colors and floating heads only different faces.
p diddy and rosie can't hold a candle or anything else to woody
Usually I am not a big fan of restaurant week because I don't think you get the best out of a restaurant and it can still work out quite pricey if you have a drink. My friend who used to work at Del Posto confirmed my suspicions that they turn their tables 3x faster than they usually would during restaurant week and they pick simple dishes that are easy to prepare and do not necessarily reflect the restaurant's style. Still I did have an amazing dinner at Elettaria, so I would definitely go back to sample their usual menu. Tabla is another one that makes the most of restaurant week, but most of the others have disappointed me in the past.
Hi Paz
I hope you do take advantage. It's neat to visit a place where you don't normally dine.
Ha, thanks Bananas!
Hi Ming
Ah, lunch sounds very smart...and even less expensive than dinner.
Hi Olivier
You must know Wood Allen! You must!!!
Hi James
It was distracting, I have to say, lol. But fun and informal too.
Hi Lily
Amazing you can recall dreams from your past. I can barely recall dreams from the night before.
Hi Ken
I agree. Woody is the quintessential New Yorker, I think, though we're not all as neurotic as his characters!
Hi Fish
Ah....I'd never thought of the turnover. Our dinner was quite pricey after adding a couple bottles of wine.
Thank you for the tip, I haven't dined at Tabla, only sampled the drinks, which are great!
Indeed it is a great blog post but after searching a lot I came up with the good list of restaurants that are not only budget friendly but also food offered there is also of superior quality. I think you should take a look at that list.
