Photo by myself around 34th Street and 7th Avenue, in Midtown.
Some four-footed and two-footed members of the NYPD posed for me.
The NYPD still uses horses, mostly for crowd control. The crowds are so overwhelming in this area near Penn Station, every day. They help create a living blockade, keeping pedestrians out of the street.
Rounding the corner and encountering these huge creatures is a treat. Each time, I cannot help but stop and say hello.
Above, a photo from last year. There are horse lovers here in NYC.

c'est vrai qu'ils sont sympas, et se laissent prendre en photo. J'aime bien la derniere photo
Beautiful animals. Horses are among my favorites. Them and dogs.
I'm a horse-lover too, used to beg for one as a child and was finally lucky enough to have one during my high school years. I can never pass horses up without wanting to touch their fabulous soft noses!
I like horses. They look pretty happy.
Very nice portrait and last year's snap is great too. Well done.
like you can see in your lovely photo, animals seem to bring out the best in people.
Great shots, Kitty! There is something magical about seeing police horses. They're at once majestic and friendly. Quite practical too--they do create the living blockade you mention. They also give the officers greater visibility and a speed advantage over pedestrians when needed.
I've been at 34th Street all this week. Yes, there ARE a lot of horse lovers in the city. ;-)
