Last Wash, Brooklyn

Last Wash, Brooklyn
Photo by myself in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

To most New Yorkers, a washing machine is a luxury item.

Trekking down the street with a bag of dirty laundry is a common urban experience. Most people pass their time at the laundromat by watching tv or reading. The fellow above looks to be plugged in.

Some New Yorkers splurge by dropping off their laundry to be washed (you are charged by the pound). I was never comfortable with someone else handling my underwear!

Dishwashers are luxury items too, but washing dishes by hand is a whole lot easier than washing clothes.

I remember going to the laundromat on a regular basis with my mother, a chore I detested since it took a major part of my Saturday. I like this guy who is at least reading the paper and listenikng to music!

Not sure I can explain it, but I feel as if the photo, plus your comments, say more about NY life than they would seem to. Maybe because the guy is plugged in, maybe because I hated laundromats. I haven't used one for a long, long time, and I forgot to feel lucky for that.

This is a nice picture! I love black and white photography! It makes everything seem so different and gives a fresh viewpoint.

I always did my laundry myself (when I lived in Manhattan) until my son was born. Then I wondered why I never dropped it off before. It was worth every penny. We were lucky though, the women who did the wash was excellent.
I LOVE this photo btw!

I love the way a BW image creates such an urban atmosphere, I love the picture and the whole concept taking pictures of a city.

I love this ideia of the laundromat, here we have nothing like this.... we have a washing machine or in the old days there was a washing tank in the village or in your kitchen and the clothes were washed with blue soap by hand! This concept never picked up here...strange!

What an amazing photography. Haven't seen more than one laundromat over here so far. Cleaning the dishes every day agree with you about the easiness. Please have a wonderful Friday.

I've seen many 'o laudro-mats in my life time. Other than this brilliant picture, I don't quite care to see another all my life long. Hot. Boring. Noisey. And if really busy, fightings over machines. I'm blessed now to have a washer.
