Get Your Street Sweets Here

Street Sweets, NYC
Photo by myself around 76th Street and Broadway, on the Upper West Side.

The eye-catching Street Sweets truck can be seen from afar.

New Yorkers have fallen in love with street food. Anything served from a fancy, painted truck will do - ice cream, falafel, pastries, burritos, crepes, dumplings, you name it.

I attribute this to the city streets, which are cleaner than ever. There is also something irresistible about people waiting visibly in line that draws even more people into the line. Throw in a clever name and cool graphics, and you have a hit.

The Street Sweets truck serves up liquids and solids. On their menu are all sorts of caffeinated beverages, quiches, cupcakes and cakes. And they cater!

I dig the look of this van. And would just about give anything for a NY dirty water hot dog. :D

Looks like a great idea! What kind of street food do you recommend in NYC? Anything or anywhere in special?

Love it! So close to DC and yet so far.

When i was last in NY i took the obligatory bus ride and the tour guide explained how much money the street vendors have to pay, just to park their 'van' or cart on the street. Needless to say i'm surprised anyone can afford to stay in business. It was something ridiculous like $200,000. Seriously! How can people survive when all their earnings go to the city?

Great pic, btw. As usual! :)

did you see the recent New York magazine article on eating cheap in NY? I was reading it yesterday at the gym (while on the eliptical)& thought of you Kitty. They include a list of 25 best food trucks!
I absolutely love the photos of the children playing in the water in Park Slope. Are you selling any of your prints? I am very interested.

I almost always liked street food in Japan much more than the stuff in the cafeteria. This is a nice looking truck.

Do you have a homemade recipe you would share with our readers? No, you don't have to be fat to share them.

Yet another wonderful street food truck in NYC. Here in Chicago, so far we have, let me count, zero. Draconian health codes seem bent on saying no to everything. Cool photo, Kitty. I love to see that you get all over the city in your photo quests.

Thanks everyone! I'm so glad you all liked the graphics. They did a nice job.

Washington, I am excited for your trip here. I think you'll have a fantastic time.

I don't have any specific trucks to recommend. They're all pretty good. I've had shwarma and chicken and rice from many a truck. There is a competition here every year for best street food. I'll dig it up for you.

So we have moved from carts to trucks. I love the colors. It must all taste good. Something in the water, I think! Great picture, Kitty.
