Sitting Streetside, at Macondo on Houston Street

Macando, NYC
Photo by myself on Houston and Allen Streets, on the Lower East Side.

Part of the facade of Macando, a relatively recent addition to Houston Street, flips open for outdoor bar seating.

Macando's menu is filled with Latin street food made up with fancy ingredients. The dinner selection includes ceviche (bay scallops with wasabi oil and grapefruit ginger sauce), arepas (oven roasted quail with spinach, figs and manchego cheese), and rellenos (yuca, cheese, more cheese and a black bean sauce).

The brunch menu starts off with blueberry pancakes, blue agave nectar and lemon cream. Oh boy. Why do I think Anthony Bourdain would love this place?

The prices for such precious bites are very reasonable. Dinner and brunch plates seem to be under $15.

Macando is nocturnal, open on weekdays from 5pm to Midnight. Fridays and Saturdays they go a bit nuts and stay open until 3am. Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4:30pm.

The backsides of customers is a novel idea to attract attention. I suppose you got to sample the goodies since you are advertising their shop?

ha Matt. Thanks!

Hi Mr. Lincoln,
Actually I'm not advertising their food. I've never eaten there.

We passed by while driving and their online menu looks delish!

Hi Kitty. We have been to Houston street but we did not notice this place. It seems to be very good.
