An older couple sold cold drinks on the sidewalk.
Speaking of money, rates went up recently for regular commuters to and from New York.
For those commuting by train to New York from New Jersey, the monthly train pass went from $54 up to $89 dollars. For drivers, those using pre-paid cards went up by $4 per ride.
If you're a driver using cash, your toll goes up from $8 to a whopping $15, each time you drive to and from the city. Those using cash at the tolls slow down traffic and require humans to be hired to provide change.
Many, many people commute between New Jersey and New York daily.

I feel bad for them! It's especially hard for retirees to be taking money out of their investments monthly right now!
As percentages, those increases are huge! I'm becoming sure that NO policy maker has the interests of Main Street in mind. Thanks for the info.

About the commuter fees : how long is the journey from New Jersey into New York? I commute into Central London every day from the surrounding countryside, takes 40 minutes on the train to the centre of town and it costs me £318 ($500) each month!!! And news have just come out of a rise in fees next year of 6-10%... Of course services don't improve, although I won't complain about that, the train gets me to work and home on time most days and that's the most important thing. Lots of people will pay astronomical prices here to be able to and work in the city - it is well known that public transport in the UK is one of the most expensive in the world and my heart bleeds every time I have to pay up. Especially after visiting Rome, where for a few Euros we could travel around all day long...
