Working the Streets

Working Outside
Photo by myself in Soho, on Prince Street.

With laptops you can work anywhere, even on the sidewalk. There is no excuse for not working!

--

I'm not sure how anyone gets any work done in this heat and humidity. All Mark and I want to do is nap.

The toughest part of my job right now is the lack of stress, if that makes any sense. For the first time in a while, I don't have impossible deadlines. I'm not staying long hours in the office to do the work of three people, or obsessively checking my emails from home.

Mark is the same way. Without a deadline, he is a restless soul. When he's not working, Mark will go through all of our drawers and bookshelves and organize them, clean everything from the fridge to the shower, take drives around with Clive, then call me for suggestions on what to do.

With my excess energy, I've been going to the gym 6 days a week. I know. Insane, eh? I'm not sure where this is coming from, but I hope it's for good.

I think most people work best under pressure, don't you?

Interesting. It looks like it would take hours to get her hair to look like that.

Is there no place to get in out of the heat and humidity?

Love all your latest photos! Street photography is hard but very interesting. I've recently discovered a very talented swedish photographer that you should check out. Very inspiring indeed. www.gardsater.se
About working under pressure, I agree with you. But if it gets too much, I just panic and get paralyzed. I've never been able to work outside with my computer. The bright light makes it impossible to see the screen. Perhaps it works better in the shadow. But it doesn't matter, cause I have the iMac 24". Not the most portable computer.

Hi Mr Lincoln
well, I guess there is indoors, but after a while, one gets antsy, yknow?

Hi Fredrik
Welcome back from vacation and thanks for the suggestion! I don't browse other peoples' photos enough.

I can completely see being paralyzed. There is a 'good' stress that makes you hum along, and then you cross the line into the bad region.

Great to see you back.

I always advocate commnetators on my blog to check out new sites. It is far too wet for oudoor laptops here, but I agree with, no excuse with the dry weather.

Travailler dehors cela doit être agréable, mais je préfèrerais travailler dans un des nombreux parcs newyorkais qui ont le wifi.
Working outside this should be fun, but I prefer to work in one of the many parks newyorkais who have wifi.

This looks much better than sitting inside! Although I agree with Olivier...a park might be more pleasant!

Stress makes me freak! I hate working under stress! I end up drinking way too much coffee when I do.

I hate laptops for that reason. There's no excuse not to work. There's no escape.

I'm like you, I need a deadline, otherwise I get bored, but I don't like it when work is too stressful.

I would agree: it's a napping weather. Tonight I went to the boardwalk with a good book, a sandwich a bottled of cool water. It was breezy, really nice and the sunset was so pretty. Makes me think how stupid I am when I spend the evening at home with such weather. That should be the plan any of those days.

Like you, I need some threat of deadlines and expectations -- within reason, of course. I've had my share of impossible deadlines that I've been expected to fulfill, and really in the end, all it gets you are more unreasonable deadlines! Balance - if you can get it - is bliss.

It seems to me that there is always something to do and I'm happiest keeping busy. It's harder for me to relax, though I know life is too short not to try!
Kitty I love this photo. It is so New York. the woman pictured looks comletely relaxed and focused at the same time, and her hair is to die for to boot.

oh yes, they always say that if you want to get something done you should give it to a busy person to do. I work so much more effectively under pressure.

Like you, it seems switched off at the moment and I can't seem to get the little I do have to do, done!!! I keep looking at it and thinking "oh that can wait till later".

I use my laptop everywhere too - that's why it's always so filthy dirty!! I need your Mark to come and clean it for me - he could spend a happy hour doing my fridge too - oh and I have loads of messy cupboards.

Have a lovely summer, Kitty x
