Wednesday Portraits - The New York Times

Asleep in Midtown
Photo by myself in Midtown, around 34th Street and 6th Avenue.

A fellow had fallen sleep sitting up, while the world walked by on the sidewalk. FOr some reason, everyone seemed to be wearing jeans.

A while back I started posting about other New York blogs on Wednesdays, in a series I called Wednesday Portraits.

It was a noble cause, but a silly one, mainly because I had a hard time finding other New York sites that posted reliably.

I've since found the best source for a blog overview, none other than The New York Times. The Times has a whole section online devoted to regional news and New York blogs.

Recently, this blog made it to Times' blogroll, as well as to the blog highlights page, Blogtalk. Blogtalk is a daily newswire of sorts, listing interesting tidbits culled from blogs around the city.

There are over 100 blogs listed, and they're categorized by genre - People and Neighborhoods, News, General Interest, Politics.

It's pretty incredible to think that such an institution as the New York Times would put its ear to the ground, reading blogs, but they do.

Check it out.

Wednesday Portraits is an ongoing, not-at-all regular installment featuring other New York blogs.

Perfect timing for this shot having everyone passing by, even eating donuts! :-)

I always envy people who can fall asleep anywhere.

I think the mainstream news media are much more alert to the advantages to them of keeping up with blogs and of forging links with bloggers. Blogs are often the first place where stuff gets announced so it pays for them to do so.

Well that just beats all. Asleep in the middle of the hustle and bustle of NYC. Amazing!

Bravo to the NY Times for recognizing one of our best photographers documenting daily NYC life. Congratulations Kitty.
Yes I agree with RB, the media absolutely must be checking out what is relevant. Blogs are truly the voice of the people. & you happen to have a great voice through the eye of your camera.
BTW, I wonder why this guy is so tired?

Nice doughnut. Obviously a very sleepy man. Before you explained that he was asleep I thought that he was ill or something!

But honestly, how do you fall asleep in the middle of a busy NY street?!

Kitty's made the big time. No surprise there.

I agree, blogs have to be taken seriously by the media. I have a few trusted blogs for local issues and feel they are my best source of unvarnished, intelligent information.

Funny how some folks can fall asleep anytime, anywhere, anyhow. He must have been real tired. ;-)

Congrats on being mentioned in the Times. Awesome!
