The Historic Scribner Building, Fifth Avenue

Scribner's Building, NYC
Photo by myself in Midtown, around Fifth Avenue and 48th Street.

Built in 1893, this historic building once housed the publishing house, Scribner's. The lower floor has a high, arched ceiling.

Sephora, the cosmetics store, is located behind a quaint wall of glass.

The yellow light just adds to this one.

Seems to be very fancy! Love the high ceiling. What are those vehicles on the street? Looks like the indian rickshaws.

Thanks for pointing out the arched ceilings inside. I was so impressed with the exterior that I would not have noticed. Your photo, as always, capture the essence.

Sephora, as you probably know, is a French company. Their flagship store on the Champs-Elysées is amazing. Is this their New York flagship store?

Hi Birdman
I agree, the yellow glow is quite nice, especially on a cold day.

Hi Washington
Yes they're NYC equivalents of rickshaws. We call them 'pedicabs', in that they are powered by someone's feet (not that they involve a pedicure).

I see people taking pedicab rides a lot. They don't look particularly safe though, and some normal taxi cabs can be very aggressive.

Thanks Brenda!

Hi Susu
I thought you'd like such a building - it's stylish and feminine, as to your taste!

Thanks Ken!

Hi Louis
Silly me, I thought Sephora was an American phenomenon. In all, a brilliant idea, no?

I'm not sure there is a Sephora flagship store. There are many around town in Soho, Midtown, etc., and all are very generously sized. This one is one of the fancier ones.
