Photo by myself below ground at the 34th Street subway station.
A rather large police dog was on duty, Tuesday morning.
Just then, a large group of policemen rode up the escalator. The dog suddenly perked up, ears pointed forward. A few seconds later, he started prancing excitedly.
His handler explained to me that the dog recognized the police uniforms. I only wish I'd had a video camera, because the change was so incredible, just night and day!
By the way, I did not have trouble with photographing the police, but I did ask permission first. In my experience I have not had issues taking photos of the NYPD.

et tu n'as pas eut de probleme pour les prendre en photos ? en France, c'est souvent interdit
Yes I feel the same as Olivier, was it allowed to take this picture? Or did you smile nice to the man?
I always love seeing a police dog. From a far they seem scary but when you approach them, they turn very sweet and tame creature.
Hi Olivier and Bieb!
I thought I'd have a problem, too. But I asked if I could take a photo and the policeman was very nice. They were all very friendly in fact.
Hi Peppermint
Yes, this dog was very large but so tame. It was lovely to see him having some fun on the job.
Lovely!
I love how you have captured the one policeman looking towards the dog smiling.
What a great story, Kitty! Obviously the dog is well treated by his fellow officers.
Is it difficult to take a pictures of policeman in the US? in France you wont be allowed.
Free countrie?
Police officers are people too! The police chief is in our local Rotary Club and he's the nicest, funniest guy around! We split some lottery tickets at our Rotary lunch meeting today and split the $21 cash prize.
Did you go to see/photograph the John Lennon memorial in the park today by chance?
Thanks everyone!
Leif, I totally missed that it was the anniversary of John Lennon's death. I will have to put this on my calendar.
I'm sure there was an impromptu vigil of sorts, there.
That is a great shot and though I can imagine the dog's excitement at seeing other uniforms on video, the still shot leaves a lot to the imagination, too.
Our dog gets excited at the sight of a UPS uniform. His favorite person outside of us is the UPS lady who always gives him double treats.
that's cause you're a girl!
whenever i see a big German Shepard police dog I always have to resist the urge to hug it!
