Step Lively

Human sign
Photo by myself, in Midtown, on Sixth Avenue.

Part of business is just getting the word out. Some people dress in costume, others hand out fliers. Walking down the sidewalk is very much like an obstacle course, especially during rush hour.

--

The sidewalks are teeming with people, much, much more than usual.

Europeans must be getting great deals, with the exchange rate. Whole families with little kids saunter down the street next to harried business people and commuters. Often, I will look across the street and see a mass of people surging in one direction or the other.

The sidewalks are overflowing. People walk along the street edge, tempting fate with traffic speeding by. The crowds push forward, impatient for the traffic lights to change.

So far, I haven't seen any accidents (this year). Knock wood.

Hmm, I can imagine that walking down the pavements during rush hour in NY is pretty bad - I hate it when it's crowded here, so couldn't even begin to imagine how frustrating it must be there!

Kudos to this man though, he looks like he's doing a bang-up job!
Ciao

I found your site by way of Chewy at The Back Of My Headboard. I've been enjoying your photos this morning. They are wonderful. I love getting a glimpse of what life in NYC is like. Great blog.

Thanks, Olivier
I agree. I felt terrible taking the photo on the one hand, but was compelled to do so, on the other.

This poor fellow.

Hi Scarlet
I need to take more crowd shots, I think. Sometimes it is quite insane.
This guy was doing a very good job, unintimidated by the masses around him.

Welcome CJ!
I look forward to seeing your blog. You remind me, I haven't looked through Chewy's paintings lately.

Thanks for your kind words and stopping by.

Kitty,

I think your do a marvellous job photographing NY. This monochrome of such bustling scene with one man trying to find the space to plough on in his job is a perfect example.

You are right about the exchnage rate. So many I know are swtiching there Europe holiday for A USA vacation this year.

A few years ago around Christmastime, a friend and I were walking around the hyper-crowded blocks near Rockefeller Center, and every intersection became a squashy crush of people as they suddenly stopped, scrunched together at the stoplight. It was really kind of scary!
