Photo by myself on the subway.
I usually observe the unspoken New York code of ethics regarding photographing on the subway, especially in the mornings. However, I could not resist taking this photo during a particularly grueling commute to the city, Monday.
It may have been the intense rain all weekend that did the subway in. There were severe delays and crowded platforms.
As usual on such days, when the train finally arrived, everyone crowded in and the doors had trouble closing. This delays the train even more, which backs up the trains behind the train in question, which then creates greater crowds on the platform.....
You get my drift.
Anyway, the above subway poster attempts to educate people about not blocking the subway doors. It is very, very annoying when the doors are held open for stragglers. Hence the graffiti. Ha.

Ha! That's great, with the graffiti! There are similar signs in the Paris metro.
Is there a real code of ethics for photos in the metro....? I hope I have not violated it....
Hi Bibi
Oh I'll have to keep my eyes open next time we're in Paris, whenever that is, lol.
No real code of ethics, just the usual about using your 'indoor voice' and not clipping your toenails!
Kitty your response to Bibi gave me a chuckle this morning.
I think you have to be a hardcore native new yorker to resist the impulse to hold the door - like an elevator door it's just to tempting to stick your arm out when it starts to close on you - I know, I know TOURIST!!
Ha, had to laugh at the graffiti. I was going to ask the same question as Bibi, re the unwritten code of ethics.
So funny -- thanks for the smiles.
very funny!
It's annoying unless, of course, said straggler is...YOU!
I think it's annoying. But I've done it. And I was born and raised in NY. !!!
Good eye Kitty great post.
Yes I'm glad you posted about this...I DO find myself annoyed when someone holds the door for a late comer...it interrupts the general flow, and of course there WILL be another train coming so...
But I actually thought there might be an unspoked rule the other way...as in "hold the door for a latecomer if you can."
Thank goodness I was right...now I can be righteously annoyed! lol
