Cobblestones Underfoot, in the Financial District

Ulysses' Bar, NYC
Photo by myself at Stone and Pearl Streets, in the Financial District.

You'd be surprised by parts of the Wall Street area. Some of the oldest streets in Manhattan are here, lined with buildings with an Old World flavor.

The Manhattan street grid is non-existant in this neighborhood, and narrow streets twist and turn. Mark reminded me that ships once docked here and merchants traded goods in the streets. You can almost hear the clamor of history.

Above, Ulysses' House offers a full menu of hearty food, beer and spirits. I'm sure it's packed with financial types during lunch and after hours.

I am certain this street has been featured in movies. It is absolutely charming, only a few blocks away from the New York Stock Exchange. I don't know this area well, so each turn of the corner was like making a discovery.

Amazing how you can imagine being someone else entirely, somewhere far away from the hustle and bustle of NYC.

Thanks everyone!
I was lucky, it had drizzled all day, making the streets reflective and photogenic.

Lewi14, it's incredible that there are cobblestone streets here and there throughout Manhattan.

You can find them in the Village, Soho and Wall Street Area. Not the most comfortable to walk on, but just incredible to think all the streets were cobblestone at one point.

Monsteri, I agree. It's incredible to think that here we are in the 21st century. New York isn't half as old as Europe, so preserving what bits of history we can is important.

On se croirait dans une scène de film.
It looks like a movie scene.
It's a pleasure to follow you in the streets of NY.

Beautiful, beautiful shots, Kitty. I wouldn't be surprised if the street has been in movies--it's so wonderfully atmospheric that it looks more like a movie set than real life.

I at first thought you were on a TV or movie set! Then I looked up the street view on Google maps.
Thank you for showing us this view!

(Do you ever get hostile comments from people who don't want their photo, even if just in the background?)

Thanks everyone!

Hi Brenda
So far I haven't had any bad encounters with people. I usually act on intuition whether people would be dangerous or hostile.

Some street artists selling their work have politely asked that I not photograph, thinking others would steal their ideas. That's about it.
