Holiday Displays, Fifth Avenue

Lord and Taylor, Fifth Avenue

While I've been out of town, New York readers of this blog and friends back home have written to say that it's suddenly freezing in New York. Temperatures are in the teens and 20's, and with the wind and walking around, I'm sure it feels much, much colder.

At least the cozy window displays help to warm the spirits. Kids and adults can escape into their fantasy lands, if only for a moment.

Don't we all have childhood memories of such windows?

This reminded me of one of those small toy-like models one buys and sets around for the holidays. I liked it a lot.

I hate the cold but it would seem very odd for me to be somewhere warm at Christmas time. Not that I would turn the opportunity down!!

Don't you find that when you are somewhere warm, on holiday, it is hard to remember that others are back in the cold. Well, you know they are but you can't quite believe it.

Loved your photos of the beach too.

What's funny is that the minute you posted this it warmed right up. Today I had to find a spring rain coat since I have a meeting and have to look presentable. I was still sweating balls on the way to work. I know it won't last but I'm trying to appreciate it. Monday was so cold. So so cold.

I'm a big fan of nice window displays and this is definitely a cozy window. it's true, warm visuals help on cold days!
& yes, Kizz is right, it's supposed to get to the mid 50's, maybe as high as 60 today. But it's grey & rainy, so you are in the right place Kitty.

Lovely shop! Hope you enjoy your stay in Mexico. Must be a huge contrast to your everyday life in NYC?

I suppose that it is common in many parts of the world for town squares and consumer shopping areas to sponsor and display decorations.
