Old New York, on the Lower East Side

Lower East Side, NYC
Photo by myself at Orchard and Broome Streets, on the Lower East Side.

The Lower East Side is a neighborhood known for its old fashioned character. It has not succumbed to chain stores or Starbucks. Thank goodness.

Some streets are still paved neatly in cobblestone. Faded old signs mark textile stores that have existed for generations. Quirky new bars and restaurants have moved in, during the last several years.

Related posts: Meat Market, Ninth Avenue, Visions of a Cheeseburger, Midtown and Shoot the Freak, Coney Island.

Thank you for the picture, I'm an old movie buff and it reminds me of those streetscapes from the 1930's.

How nice and peacefull a site, makes one long for a quiet place. Nice to see as well the childrens buggy at the steps, over here people surely would have been to afraid it would get stolen. Please have a nice start into the new week.

Great shot - love b&w, it always catches my attention.
You may know already, but I think I saw this image on the site that's been stealing images from CDP. If you don't know, check CDP and the link for where pictures are being stolen (sidebar where people post the sites birthdays, news, etc.)

Hi Marcia
Glad you liked the photo!

Thanks Frank!

Hi ρομπερτ
I'm pretty sure the baby stroller is chained to the railing. Everything is fair game on sidewalks here, as in Athens.

Hi T. Becque
Thanks so much for the heads up.

I've clicked on the Google ads link too. I'm sure we photobloggers are the only people visiting the site.

Awesome picture! It's a 9 out of 10. If the guy was standing in front of you, it would definitely be a 10.
