Crowd Crossing, at 34th Street

Crossing, NYC
Photo by myself at 34th Street and Broadway.

Allow me to indulge myself with yet another crosswalk scene. I have a weakness for those moments when random people encounter each other in all directions.

If you're ever caught in the middle of rush hour in Midtown, it's sort of like orchestrated chaos. People cross each other's paths at a brisk pace.

One wrong move, one head fake or stumble, and dozens of people would collide into each other. But everyone has great reflexes, and disaster is avoided.

I have yet to see a pile-up!

I like those street views of people. It is as you say it very right, an orchestrated chaos.

You didn't get run over by the crowd, did you Kitty? We have several Macy's stores here in the Twin Cities, too!

Regarding your posting from yesterday, there was a Gay Pride parade in Minneapolis on Saturday, too

And nobody noticed your camera! The art of being invisible or how distracted people can be!
It is also nice to see people wearing T-shirts while here we are about to freeze!

In yesterday's and today's shots you've really got a good sense of disconnect. It might be more obvious in yesterday's photo (ironic, in a day celebrating union . . . ). But in today's pic, there's a sort of vertical line of space, just a pinch left of center. On either side of that line, each person is facing away from other people, which really does create your "orchestrated chaos."

Yes, I do cut-rate OVER-analysis: 6 cents per minute.

Thanks everyone!

Leif, I was lucky. Next time I'll have to wear a helmet.

Washington, it's funny how distracted people can be at times, then how aware they are at others. It is really hit or miss.

Banjo, you have a wonderfully innate ability to find order and meaning in things....so you are perfectly suited to your profession. Bravo!
