The Steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Met, nyc
Photo by myself outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the Upper East Side.

The steps of the Met are often crowded with people standing, taking photos or sitting during a break.

There are blocks of stone above the columns, for whatever reason. This was part of the original design, and have always struck me as looking unfinished. It might be a reference to archaeology, but I'm not sure.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Thanks for the lovely NYC fix, Kitty. One of my favorite things about the Metropolitan Museum of Art is being up on the rooftop, cocktail in hand, and gazing out at the park and the swell apartments surrounding it.

The first time I saw those steps was the mid 1970s and I was hitchhiking from JFK Airport thru the city on my way back to Ohio from Europe.
The dude driving gave me a brief tour of Manhattan. He told me you could pick up chicks on the steps at the Met.
Then he dropped me off somewhere on the west side with a warning not to get out of a car above 125th St.

What grandeur. Appropriate house for serious art.

I have been to the Met a number of times and never noticed those blocks!
